The Generalitat rewards Benidorm twice in the European Week of Sustainable Mobility
The creation of a safe route to the school complex of the Center-West zone recognized by the Conselleria d'Habitatge
'Els Tolls' Neighborhood Association wins the second prize for 'Implementation of a sustainable mobility culture in the neighborhood of Els Tolls'
Benidorm City Council has won the second prize in the category of Big Cities of the second edition of the European Mobility Week (SEM) Awards organized by the Conselleria d'Habitatge, Obres Públiques i Vertebració del Territori, surpassing many bigger cities and with much higher budgets. Benidorm has only been overtaken by València which has won the first award for the 'Ring Cycling' that envelops its historic center.
In this edition of the SEM Awards, 43 actions were presented in 21 nominations, 14 corresponding to the category of municipalities and 7 to that of institutions, organizations and companies. Benidorm attended the meeting with the creation of a Safe Itinerary to the School Complex, Centro-Poniente zone. The paving works and creation of a bike lane from the municipal border with Finestrat, running along the avenue of Villajoyosa, Spanish Armada. Jaime I, Alfonso Puchades to the 'Salt de l'Aigua' School Complex. A route of 6.4 Km. That allows access on foot or by bicycle to this important area of schools, sports and gives access to the Municipal Vehicle Depot and Children's Traffic Park.
With this action, framed within the Urban Mobility Plan and made with the contributions of neighbors and associations from the Citizen Participation Table, the City Council has managed to drastically reduce pollutants emitted into the atmosphere, noise, CO2 emissions, traffic congestion, accidents and improved circulation of vehicles.
This prize responds "to the policy of consensus" that is carried out in Benidorm, said in the council of Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate. A dynamic of collaboration with the associative movement, specialists and municipal technicians that develop actions "of mobility, sustainability, healthy participation and environment" as has been demonstrated with the award obtained.
The award will be a "strong push" to sustainable development actions designed by Mobility. "It is a certificate for subsidies - a apostille of Zarate - that will guarantee many of the projects in which we are working towards the European Union or the EDUSI" [Sustainable Urban Development Strategy], remembering that the City is very involved in the new project.
Sustainable mobility in Els Tolls
The European Mobility Week Awards have also rewarded the project presented by the Els Tolls Neighborhood Association, 'Implementing a sustainable mobility culture in the Els Tolls neighborhood' which, as the president of the association Juan Antonio Lizancos said, "is a choral prize to the entire Mobility Council" in which the whole movement of the neighborhood of Benidorm participates. Lizancos has been very satisfied because it is proposed "a project to implement the culture of sustainable mobility" and that enhances the "feeling of the people towards their surroundings".
Regarding the awards received by Benidorm, city planner and municipal technician Juan Carlos Sánchez Galiano pointed out that the "initial barriers" to projects such as those now awarded "are being demolished" and have established very "agile" channels of communication between technical staff , local associations and their representatives in the corporation.
