At the moment, tourism from the United Kingdom is 6% above last winter

Fitur leaves good expectations of the British market for the summer, waiting for the evolution of the pound after ‘Brexit’

26 January 2020
Fitur deja buenas expectativas del mercado británico para el verano, a la espera de la evolución de la libra tras el ‘Brexit’

Benidorm meets with national, European, Russian and Asian operators; and with the OET’s of 14 capitals and countries

The work meetings held with different British operators during the International Tourism Fair of Madrid, Fitur, have left favorable expectations for this summer; while they have confirmed that the numbers of the current winter season are above those of 2019. Specifically, British tourism has grown by approximately 6% compared to last winter.

Likewise, one of the main operators, Jet 2 Holidays, has announced that it will keep its places both for this summer and for the winter of 2021, even with a certain margin of growth.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Visit Benidorm manager, Leire Bilbao, have pointed out that “sales for this summer are working well and at a good pace, as they have moved us from Jet 2 Holidays and EasyJet Holidays,” a subsidiary of the airline It has one of the largest aircraft fleets in Europe and has broken into the tour operator market by taking advantage of the space left by Thomas Cook, adding more than 50,000 seats in tour packages. However, "we must maintain some caution and wait to see how the pound fluctuates once Brexit becomes effective, since this circumstance can affect the ability to spend on the British market."

In addition to collecting data on how the winter season is working and sales facing the summer in the British market, in these meetings with operators Benidorm has tried to open new markets, especially in Asia, and increase the market share of Different tour operators at the destination.

Apart from the fact that with Jet 2 Holidays and EasyJet Holidays, Benidorm has held meetings with operators such as Kayak, Tssgroup, Solbooking, Edreams, Asia Link, Love Holidays, Ávoris Bedbank, JTA Travel, Skyscanner, Ytravex, Atraction World and El Corte Inglés, among others.

At the fair, working meetings have been held with representatives of the Tourism Offices of Spain (OET's) from different European countries or capitals: Ireland, Zurich, Berlin, Rome, Milan, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Denmark, Norway, Austria, Stockholm, Lisbon and Frankfurt. These meetings have served to "plan actions in different countries" as "product presentations at destination" or "press-trip". In this regard, the TSOs of France and Rome "have confirmed to us that they will bring to Benidorm a specialized press interested in the Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) and to value the sustainability of the destination."

Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability

Precisely, Fitur has also served so that Benidorm makes known to the different operators the work that is being carried out in the city within the framework of the DTI, especially in the field of sustainability. An issue that has aroused the interest of Jet 2 Holidays, which within its corporate social responsibility has given a preeminent role to sustainability, focused on reducing CO2 emissions. In fact, the company is interested in investing in projects that contribute to this reduction in emissions and in collaborating with destinations that are working in this line.
