Around 2,000 runners have participated in the 2022 Benidorm Half, a sporting and, above all, a fun competition that summons, edition after edition, more athletes and public along its two urban routes.

The Benidorm Half is organized by TSB Sports & Events and has the collaboration of the Benidorm City Council, the Visit Benidorm Foundation, the Benidorm Athletics Club, the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, the Athletics Federation of the Valencian Community and some companies from the location.

Athletes from the 17 Spanish autonomous communities plus the city of Ceuta, almost 400 Britons and a good number of other nationalities, started at 6:30 p.m. from the Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España, but not before launching a message for peace in solidarity with the Ukrainian people suffering from the war. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, was in charge of firing the starting gun.

At 29 minutes and 6 seconds, the Spanish champion, Toni Abadía, fulfilled the forecast and won the 10K and, also, with a new record. In women, Cristina Juan did the same, leaving the time at 34 minutes and 16 seconds.

In the half marathon, the Moroccan-born Spaniard, Abdelaziz Merzougui, reached the finish line in first place, smashing the 21K record again, setting it at 1 hour, 5 minutes and 41 seconds. Finally, the Belgian Alexandra Tondeur, was not going to be less and reached the finish line first after striking another mark, leaving the stopwatch at 1 hour, 20 minutes and 16 seconds.

The race ran through the center until it reached Rincón de Loix and then continued to La Cala. The test passed through the squares, streets and avenues of Doctor Fleming, Pont, Hispanidad, Esperanto, Doctor Orts Llorca, Mediterráneo, Bilbao, Alcoi, Madrid, l'Ametlla de Mar, Doctor Severo Ochoa, Gerona, Doctor Pérez Llorca, Martínez Alejos , Paseo de la Carretera, Mayor José Such Ortega, San Pedro, Spanish Navy, La Vila Joiosa, Murtal, Santander, Aigües, Vicente Llorca Alós, Alicante, Quatre Cantons, Constitució, Carmela Martínez, Canalejas, Torrejó, and Virgen del Sufragio.

After 8:00 p.m., Toni Pérez and the Councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros, together with the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals 2022, Aila Merenciano and Chloe D'Hebboudt, were in charge of awarding the prizes to the winners in the main categories.
