The Artistic Baccalaureate students of the IES Pere María Orts also exhibit their photographs on 'Urban Diversities' at Espai d'Art de Els Tolls

Espai d'Art Carrasco hosts an exhibition by Nuria Crivillés and Vicente Miña on matriarchy in the Chinese community of the Mosuo

Espai d'Art Carrasco and Els Tolls will host two photographic exhibitions on different themes over the next few weeks, the focus of which is on the way of life of a small Chinese matriarchal community, on the one hand, and a reflection on urban diversities, on the other.

The first of them is entitled 'Mosuo. A Trip to the Land of women' is a project by Nuria Crivillés and photographs by Vicente Miña. There are eleven photographs accompanied by explanatory texts that can be seen until September 30 at the Espai d'Art Carrasco. This Friday, June 23 at 10 in the morning, the official visit of the authorities will take place.

The idea for the exhibition arose after the authors had lived for two years in China with the majority Han ethnic group, with a strong patriarchal tradition, and after discovering the existence of a land located in the foothills of the Himalayas.

There live the Mosuo, a small democratic community in an isolated region that is constituted as one of the few existing matriarchies in the world.

The Councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, highlighted in this regard that "their women are the ones who govern, by tradition, managing assets and organizing work while men, on the other hand, do work for the community from freedom of belonging to it and where the bond with its clan is considered the most important thing”.

The authors of the exhibition point out that in this characteristic place being born a woman is celebrated with joy since it means the growth and strengthening of the family. The exhibition, Pellicer indicated, "collects daily scenes of the life and customs of this Chinese ethnic group in the villages and rural surroundings of Lake Lugu", located in the Chinese southeast on a plateau at 2,700 meters above sea level.

The second exhibition can be visited at Espai d'Art Urbà Els Tolls from June 23 to September 30 and are selected photographs from an exercise on 'Urban Diversities' carried out with first-year Artistic Baccalaureate students from IES Pere María Orts i Bosch with the accompaniment of the photographer Vicente Miña, who introduced them to the concept of urban diversities, accompanied them on the photographic safari and advised them on the selection and editing of images.

The councilor Ana Pellicer indicated that the exhibition proposes "a visual narrative that delves into the story of coexistence and daily practices in urban public spaces and from that place they build their perspective to identify the different cultural, functional, gender, ideological or urban planning that coexist in a territory as plural as Benidorm is”. The result, the councillor continued, "is to show us the importance of understanding diversity in the urban environment to build an increasingly inclusive, accessible and healthy city."
