Espacio Público begins work to make Bilbao a street with nosidewalks
Benidorm City Council has started today the renovation works of the pavement in Bilbao street, which will basically focus on making the street with sidewalk and road at the same height.
The works will be carried out until next April 8 and will entail small modifications in road traffic in order to cause the least inconvenience to users.
This action, in one of the main avenues towards the Levante beach, completes the comprehensive remodelling work of the Avenida del Mediterráneo, as explained by the Councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, who has also specified that "there are still all parking spaces. The road will increase its pedestrian character "but with parking and passage of vehicles". However, "the speed of road traffic is reduced."
In the counsellor's opinion, it is "very good work in terms of the urban scene on the beachfront, especially so that those who walk there can do so in a more comfortable, accessible and sustainable way."
The works said González de Zárate, “will last for two weeks in order to have finished before Easter.
In addition to levelling the sidewalks and road, the height of the sewers will also be increased until they are flush with the curb and the ramps connecting the street with Paseo de Levante and Avenida del Mediterráneo will be eliminated.
As for traffic, the conditions will be minimal. Bilbao street will remain closed from today until the completion of the works on April 8, so that the vehicles that circulated along the Paseo de Levante will have to leave for Mediterráneo through the next street, Emilio Romero, since the street priest Juan Rodríguez will continue to be the entrance to the promenade. Likewise, access to the fords will be allowed.
