The award is for one year extendable and have preference retirees, unemployed and people with functional diversity
The department of Environment opens tomorrow, January 10, a deadline of one month to request the award of the 22 ecological urban gardens that have been created in Italy street, as announced by the councilman of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate. The councilman explained that it will be a Monitoring Commission which will evaluate all applications and which will subsequently control that users comply with the agreement about the use and management of these gardens, which was approved in the last plenary session. De Zárate explained that interested parties can submit their application in the Register of the City Council, administrative extensions or the department of Environment, and has specified that the assignment of use of these gardens will be "for an initial period of one year "with possibility of extension. The requirements to be awarded are: to be registered in Benidorm for a minimum period of one year -it will be taken into account seniority - or to be an association registered in the Register of Associations of the City Council; and be physically fit for agricultural work. De Zárate recalled that priority will be given to retired people, unemployed or with functional diversity, although "if the quota is not covered, the option is left open to all registered people or registered associations." The councilman stressed that these gardens will be cultivated for "self-consumption, not for sale" and "following the model of organic farming." Failure to comply with any of these two conditions, "breaching the rules of civic conduct" or "leaving the garden without working for more than three months" will entail "termination" of the assignment. Likewise, it is forbidden to install booths, kiosks, shades, chairs, benches or any other type of furniture; And once the adjudication is finished the user must return the plot in perfect condition. The City Council will make water available to users and an water meter will be set up for every six gardens, each of which will pay the proportional part. After the deadline for submitting applications, in case they exceed the number of gardens, a draw will be held for the award of the parcels. It is estimated that urban gardens may already be operational in March. De Zárate recalled that these 22 urban gardens constitute "a first phase" and that the idea of the City Hall is to create more plots in different neighborhoods of the city in 2017 and in successive years following the model of the established in Italy street, in which the urban gardens are integrated into a park with play areas for children and adults.
