Environment and Fiestas Department launches the campaign to reuse plastic glasses during Major Patron Saint Festivities
The Departments of Fiestas and the Environment have relaunched their environmental awareness campaign in collaboration with Coca-Cola, which will run throughout the Patron Saint Festivals. For this purpose, the company has donated 10,000 reusable plastic cups to be distributed among members of the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge (Association of Clubs of the Virgin of Suffrage) and the Patron Saint Festival Committee, with the aim of “promoting more sustainable festivities,” according to the Councillor for Environment, Mónica Gómez.
The councillor emphasised that this initiative “once again helps us achieve more sustainable celebrations,” and expressed her gratitude to Coca-Cola for “all its contributions to sustainability.” For his part, Coca-Cola's communications manager in Alicante, Ramón Alonso, said that the result of this campaign "is a clear example of a circular economy because less raw material is consumed and waste is reduced." Alonso reiterated "our commitment to Benidorm," which "remains unwavering, and we will support all activities aimed at reducing the impact of waste on the environment."
Finally, the Councillor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, addressed the festival associations to thank them "for their involvement in every initiative we have in favour of sustainability." Cebreros noted that many projects and initiatives have been undertaken this year, and they have fully embraced them all." She wished them "very happy holidays" and emphasised that "if we help the environment, our festivals will always be better."
