The Environmental Education Association recognizes once again the efforts dedicated to the recovery, maintenance and enhancement of this site and its high environmental value
El Moralet urban park in Benidorm will retain the 'Blue Trail' award in 2026
El Moralet urban park has been awarded the prestigious 'Blue Trail' distinction for 2026 by the Association for Environmental Education and Consumer Protection (ADEAC). The city has received this award for the second consecutive year in recognition of the park's high environmental value. Environment Councillor Mónica Gómez explained that the distinction is awarded to the park's perimeter trail, "which is once again being recognised for the efforts dedicated to the recovery, maintenance, and enhancement" of the area.
The 'Blue Trail Flag 2026' award "highlights the commitment of municipalities and public administrations to the recovery and enhancement of trails and paths that promote environmental education and the sustainable enjoyment of the environment," as Mónica Gómez explained. This award, therefore, “recognizes the trails and paths that have been restored and transformed into valuable resources for interpretation and environmental education, as well as for enjoying nature through sustainable recreational, sporting, and tourism activities.”
El Moralet urban park, recognised with this award, offers an unbeatable way to explore this vast green space of over 1 million square meters. Connecting different points of the park via a circular route, the trail allows visitors to enjoy the diverse landscapes, natural richness, and recreational areas it encompasses.
Along its easily navigable path, visitors can walk or cycle through pine forests and reforested areas with more than 10,000 native trees. The trail also features panoramic viewpoints, rest areas, picnic tables, and interpretive signage, creating an experience designed for enjoying nature in a sustainable way.
The Councillor for the Environment recalled that “this City Council has been firmly committed in recent years to recovering and enhancing this space and adapting it for the enjoyment of the public,” with numerous actions “that have transformed it into a true green lung of the municipality, where many people enjoy being in contact with nature by walking or playing sports at any time of year.”
To achieve the Blue Trail award, several criteria and indicators must be met, grouped into four categories: characteristics of the paths and routes; information, signage, and infrastructure on the paths; conservation and management of natural and cultural heritage; and public use of the paths.
For his part, the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate, also highlighted that “until very recently, El Moralet was a forgotten area of our city, barely known due to its difficult access,” contrasting it with the present day: “Today, this park is an example of sustainability, forest management, and environmental protection, but also an area for enjoying nature, accessible to all, with playgrounds, spaces for physical exercise, walking, and outdoor sports.”
The Blue Trails flags will be awarded on March 6th at Cullera Castle.
