Concerts, theater, workshops and conferences are the focus of the events prepared for March 8th
Benidorm organizes a wide program to commemorate International Women's Day
Benidorm City Council's Department of Equality has prepared a comprehensive program to commemorate International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8th, running from February 20th to March 20th. The program will feature concerts, theatre performances, workshops, and conferences, with the 25th Marina Baixa Women's Meeting on March 6th in Callosa d'En Sarrià.
This morning, the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, presented the "extensive and very complete" program at a press conference, noting that "we have tried to incorporate all the contributions we have received from associations and groups." She expressed "the gratitude of the entire Department" for this initiative.
The program will begin on February 20th with a concert entitled "Women Composers" at 8:00 PM. This recital, performed by the Meyerbeer Quartet, is part of the ‘Culture for Equality’ program and will take place in the Benidorm Town Hall Auditorium.
The activities will continue on March 4th at 7:30 p.m. with the play ‘Las mañanas de sol’, presented by the cultural association El Faro de Alejandría. This performance will also be held in Benidorm Town Hall Auditorium.
On March 5th at 8:00 p.m., another theatrical performance. This time, it will be the play ‘Ella’ by the cultural association Foromutis. This activity is also part of the ‘Culture for Equality’ program and will take place in the Benidorm Town Hall Auditorium.
On March 6th at 10:00 a.m., the workshop ‘Cuidarte sin culpa’ with psychologist Jessica Sanchís at Jelena Centre. “Those interested should first visit the centre so we can determine the session's size,” Zaragozí explained. An hour later, the official photo for International Women's Day will be taken at Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España.
That same day, starting at 5:00 p.m., the 25th Annual Meeting of Women of the Marina Baixa will be held, this year in Callosa d'en Sarrià. As always, the Town Hall will provide a bus departing at 4:15 p.m. from Agua Azul Hotel. Space is limited, and registration must be done at the Jelena centre.
On March 7, starting at 7:00 p.m., the Cultural Centre auditorium will host Silvia Pérez's monologue, “Hoy sí tengo el chichi pa' farolillos”, about menopause and sexuality, as part of the “Culture for Equality” program. This activity is not suitable for minors, and attendance is by invitation and can be collected from Jelena Centre starting Thursday.
On March 11, at 7:30 p.m., José Pérez Barceló Municipal Professional Music Conservatory will present a concert entitled "Homage to Women Composers" in the Cultural Centre Auditorium, which is also part of the "Culture for Equality" program.
The following day, March 12th, the annual women's luncheon organized by the Anémona Association will take place at 2:00 PM at the Ermita de Sanz. Those interested in attending can register at the Anémona headquarters. Also on March 12th, at 7:00 PM in the Casa del Fester Assembly Hall, Manuel Palazón will give a lecture entitled "Women of the Bible."
Finally, on March 20th at 7:00 PM, another lecture is scheduled: "Women of Benidorm in the 20th Century," presented by Maria Devesa Benaloy and Mercedes Ciges, and sponsored by Benidorm Lions Club Association in Casa del Fester Assembly Hall.
Finally, a new activity organised by the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage has been added to the program. The exhibition, titled ‘Iberian Ladies,’ reflects the importance of women in Iberian culture and will be on display at Boca del Calvari Museum. The opening will be on Friday, May 6th, at 7:30 pm. The exhibition will be open to the public from that day until approximately mid-May.
