The municipal corporation shows all its support for a reference center throughout the Valencian Community

El Doble Amor celebrates a day of coexistence and a meeting after the pandemic

The Double Love Association of Benidorm has today celebrated its traditional Day of Coexistence that has been taking place for twenty years. A holiday for families, users, workers and friends of the Occupational Center in which, in addition, they claim the role played by people with functional diversity in our society.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Llorca; Together with other members of the corporation and the provincial and Benidorm deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate, have paused their agendas to share, together with the president of the association, Casimiro Vila; its director, Luis Alfonso Muñoz; monitors, technicians and users a long-awaited reunion for what is a reference centre throughout the Valencian Community, after the two-year hiatus caused by the pandemic.

First thing in the morning, a 'falla' was planted. A paper-mâché monument in two scenes. In the first, health personnel fighting against Covid-19; in the second, thanks to the vaccines, the return to normality. Luis Alfonso Muñoz explained that each of the centre's five workshops created two of the 'ninots', demonstrating "the great creativity" of Double Love.

At 12:00 noon, the centre opened its doors so that any resident of Benidorm, or the region, could learn about its facilities and the activities that take place there. A giant paella for 400 people was cooked at the centre's entrance, which was well appreciated by the crowd. After 4:00 p.m., the fire impregnated the atmosphere with the 'cremà', an act presided over by the 'fallera' and the elder 'fallero' of Double Love, and then the music and dance put the final point to the day of coexistence.

The Double Love Association has an Occupational Center that cares for 58 people with intellectual disabilities from Benidorm and the Marina Baixa and has a dozen direct care and service professionals. It also manages the Double Love Industrial Laundry (LIDA), which employs around 60 people, with the capacity to wash 8,000 kg per day. A good part of its clients are hotels and tourist accommodations in Benidorm.
