The academic event brought together AUNEX students from across the province at Orihuela Circus Theatre
Eighteen Benidorm residents graduate from the UMH after attending Senior University Programs

Eighteen Benidorm residents over the age of 55 graduated this year from Miguel Hernández University in Elche, after completing their studies for the past two years at the Senior University Programs (AUNEX), a UMH training project in which the Benidorm City Council collaborates through the Department of Social Welfare. The project aims to promote culture and well-being through a study program immersed in a university environment, with no prior education required.
The academic event took place on Friday evening at Atanasio Díe Marín Circus Theatre in Orihuela. AUNEX students from all the municipalities in the province participating in this project, including Elche, Altea, Orihuela, Ibi, and El Campello, as well as Benidorm, gathered.
The Councillor for Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, publicly congratulated the 18 new graduates from AUNEX in Benidorm and noted that the city has hosted these University Experience Classrooms for more than twenty years at the José Llorca Linares Social Centre, where classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between October and May, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This year, a total of 50 students enrolled, of whom 18 were second-year students and, therefore, celebrated their graduation. The 2024-2025 academic year program included theoretical and practical courses on Political Economy; Chemistry in Action; Cybercrime Prevention Policies; Sociology; Memory: How I Use It and How I Can Use It Better; Biology, Natural Spaces, and Sustainability; and Law and Justice, which were completed with a series of seminars to expand the content.
Ángela Zaragozí has invited all those interested in participating in this initiative to register for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year. "The only requirements to be part of AUNEX are to be over 55 years old and have an interest in learning, as no prior education is required," the councillor noted. She also emphasised that this project "not only allows participants to expand their knowledge of different subjects, but also to be active, socialise with people of their age, and share hobbies and interests."
