The Cyclocross World Cup in Benidorm has once again achieved complete success in attendance and organization, surpassing last year's results. It has also achieved a spectacular promotional impact, showing the world Benidorm as a destination for sporting events, especially bicycle sports.

As expected, more than 15,000 fans gathered along the entire route to enjoy a show that, once again, did not disappoint anyone. After the appetizer of the lower category races, the main course came with the dispute of the World Cup event in the men's and women's Elite categories.

But from early in the morning, and also yesterday Saturday, there was a cycling atmosphere in the city and even more so in the surroundings of the circuit that ran through the Parque de Foietes and El Moralet, enclaves that have been crowded at all times with a public that has not stopped cheering on the athletes throughout the day.

The first Elite event to be held was the women's event in which, as in last year's edition, the Dutch Fem van Empel won, ahead of her compatriot Puck Pieterse and Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado, also from the same country. and leader of the World Cup.

In the Men's Elite race, one of the favourites has won, the Belgian Wout van Aert, who has made a small difference to Michael Vanthourenhout, in second place. Thibau Nys finished in third position. Once again, the first Spaniard was the cyclist from Villajoyosa, Felipe Orts, who improved his performance from last year by finishing in eighth position. The top favourite, Van der Poel, could not repeat the 2023 victory when he suffered an inconsequential fall with just over one lap remaining, which caused him to lose all his options.

Mayor Toni Pérez, present at both events and also at the medal ceremony since the morning, has expressed his satisfaction “for this great sporting achievement, which continues to consolidate us as a reference in the world of cycling, and which Once again, it has been a complete sporting, attendance and organizational success.”
