The entire water and sidewalk network of the section between Girona and Orts Llorca has been updated

Completion of the renovation of Esperanto Street included in the ‘Universal Accessibility’ project

05 September 2019
Finalizada la renovación de la calle Esperanto incluida en el proyecto de ‘Accesibilidad Universal’

Soon the lighting will be placed, the road will be operated and part of the rainwater from the area will be diverted to the ravine of l’Aigüera

The works of the 'Improvement of universal accessibility and sustainability' project on Esperanto street, where the City Council has invested 150,811 euros in renovating the potable water network, lighting and sidewalks of the only remaining section have already been completed pending update: the one between Gerona and Doctor Pérez Llorca.

The Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, recalled that this action in Esperanto focuses on the Sidewalk Plan included in the aforementioned project 'Improving universal accessibility and sustainability', which in total reaches 2 million euros and that is funded at 50% by the City Council and the Provincial Council of Alicante.

De Zárate has clarified that “the work on sidewalks and the one related to services are completely finished, and only the installation of the new street lamps, which are of the‘ led ’type, remains, which will mean significant energy savings”.

The councilor stressed that "with this action on the sidewalks of this stretch of Esperanto we practically complete the renovation of the entire Ensanche de Levante, which includes from the Plaza de la Hispanidad to Europa Avenue, now running", thus generating pedestrian routes "More comfortable and accessible".

Once the sidewalks are renewed, between the middle and the end of September the turn of the road will come. As explained by De Zárate, “within the renovation work of the Avenida del Mediterráneo, a hook pipe will be installed between the ravines of Orts Llorca and l’Aigüera”. In this way, part of the first stormwater flow will be referred to the ravine of l'Aigüera to avoid flooding in episodes of rain.

While this hydraulic work lasts, Esperanto Street will be closed to traffic, which will be diverted through Plaza de la Hispanidad.
