CN Benidorm breaks two world records of 24 hours rowing

El CN Benidorm bate dos récords del mundo de remo 24 horas

Benidorm Yacht Club has made history by beating two 24-hour rowing world records on the same day, specifically in the men's heavyweight categories of more than 30 years and women's of more than 20 years. The feat has been achieved by the 12 members that made up the women's team and the 12 men's rowers, which for 24 hours have been relieved in the Concept 2 training machine until reaching a distance of 304,836 meters and 370,572, respectively, thus far exceeding the previous world brands.

The challenge, with which the Department of Sports of Benidorm City Council has collaborated, began at 5:00 pm on Saturday and ended this Sunday at the same time at the confluence of Gambo and Pal streets. During those 24 hours, many people have approached this point to encourage the members of both teams, including the mayor, Toni Pérez; the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer; the councillor of Sports, Mariló Cebreros; and the president of the Yacht Club, Jaime Samper.

With its 370,572 meters, the boys of the Yacht Club have surpassed the previous mark by almost 60,000 meters, set at 310,774 meters by the rowers of The Silchester Dads, from the United Kingdom.

The previous record in the women's category of more than 10 women over 20 years old was achieved in June 2016 by the Atomic Athelete Ultra Row in Austin, United States, with a distance of 260,053 meters; distance that the members of the Yacht Club have improved by more than 40,000 meters.
