Benidorm will have a Tourism Sustainability Observatory.

Benidorm City Council will once again propose the strategic project ‘Benidorm Vision 360’ to the next call for the Next Generation EU Funds. This has been addressed at the ordinary annual meeting of the Governing Council of the Smart Tourist Destination Management Body (DTI) chaired today by the mayor, Toni Pérez, in  El Torrejó municipal center. Associations and social groups participated in the meeting, as well as representatives of the Mobility Council and the Corporation's political groups.

Within the agenda, the Destination Sustainability Plan, Benidorm DTI + safe in 2021, has been monitored and the actions to be developed in 2022 have been proposed, including the presentation of 'Benidorm Vision 360' to the next Next Generation call. The project, valued at almost 8 million euros and that the Central Government left without funding in the previous call, considers twenty actions around four axes: Green and sustainable transition, Improvement of energy efficiency, Digital transition and Competitiveness .

During the Managing Body meeting, the actions carried out in the past year were reviewed, focusing on the five axes of the DTI: sustainability, accessibility, new technologies, governance and innovation. Specifically, in the governance section, the system's comprehensive management tool, Ciclops STI, has been assessed; while in the area of universal tourist accessibility, the cycling ring or the implementation on the municipal website of Benidorm Accessible tool, which enriches online navigation accessible to municipal services, has stood out, among others.

The order of business also included the presentation of the Activity Report of the Entity and the results of the last audit and the renewal of the UNE 178501 standard, from last December, with which Benidorm consolidates its leadership as the first municipality certified as DTI. Likewise, the revision of the regulations of the Governing Council of the Entity has been proposed, in which its functions and competences have been reflected.

Finally, among the actions planned for the recently launched 2022, the Governing Council has opted to reinforce the axis of sustainability with the launch of a Tourism Sustainability Observatory. Proposals have also been made to encourage citizen interaction with the DTI, innovation has also been emphasized through the Smart Office, with special emphasis on obtaining resources from Next Generation EU funds and others.
