After the government decreed the reactivation of public works, actions are being carried out in areas that are usually very busy so that they are ready at the end of the confinement

The City Council prepares the pedestrianization of the last section of Sant Pere street, the closest to Armada Española

El Ayuntamiento prepara la peatonalización del último tramo de la calle Sant Pere, el más próximo a Armada Española

The renovation of the hydraulic network of Aigües street advances, which will follow the aesthetics of Poniente Promenade

Benidorm City Council is working these days on the works that will allow the pedestrianization of the last section of Sant Pere street, the one that runs between Maravall and Armada Española Avenue. An action that is being carried out taking advantage of the absence of pedestrians and the drastic reduction of vehicles as a consequence of the state of alarm, and once the Government of Spain has decreed the resumption of some non-essential activities, among which are the works on public roads.

As indicated by the mayor, Toni Pérez, "we have given priority to this work so that when the state of alarm finishes and the city recovers its normality, citizens can already enjoy a new pedestrian space on the first line of the West zone." Toni Pérez has advanced that "we have transferred to Jaime I Avenue the only ford that was in this section, so that we can restrict the passage of vehicles to this point as much as possible, limiting it mainly to public transport."

At the moment, work is already underway to raise the road to the height of the pavement and of Poniente Promenade itself, so that the street is left with a single platform configuration, with simulated printed concrete paving stones, also ensuring this mode full accessibility. Thus, it is expected that by the end of next week this performance will be finished, as soon as the space currently occupied by the roadway is milled and paved.

Subsequently, an access control will be installed at the intersection with Maravall Avenue, so that only authorized vehicles can circulate through this section.

Apart from this action in Sant Pere, which is one of the improvements to Salt de l'Aigua Asphalt Plan, in La Cala the renovation works of the hydraulic network on Aigües street are progressing, with which the catchment will be improved and drainage of the waters coming from the ravines when there are episodes of rain.

The mayor recalled that "with this action, valued at 443,691.23 euros paid for entirely by the water concession company (Hidraqua), we will be able to capture those first waters, which are the ones that come down with the highest concentration of waste and dirt, and refer them directly and effectively to the waste network, thus preventing them from reaching the beach ”. "In this way," he clarified, "in the event of very intense rains, only clean and natural waters will reach the beach."

Toni Pérez pointed out that “this work is not going to be limited only to the subsoil, but is also going to change the aesthetics of the street, which is going to follow Poniente Promenade model, with the same circular stoneware pavement in this case in blue tones ”. The intention is that "all the streets perpendicular to Vicente Llorca Alós Avenue are adopting the same aesthetic, with a view to the future renovation of this avenue and that when connecting with Poniente Promenade it will adopt its same configuration".
