Improvements in cleaning, sidewalks, lighting and traffic focus most of the proposals
The City Council meets with residents of Uruguay street and adjacent streets to learn about their concerns and see the feasibility of their proposals
Benidorm City Council, through the heads of the Departments of Citizen Participation and Public Space, Ana Pellicer and José Ramón González de Zárate, today held a meeting with the residents of Uruguay Street, after the request that they made days behind. A meeting that has been framed within the campaign 'A pie de calle' that every Thursday visits the neighborhoods of the city.
The appointment has served to learn about some neighborhood proposals, as well as their demands to improve the area. In addition to the two mayors, the meeting was attended by the vice presidents of the Neighborhood Council, Teresa Garrido and Manuel Sánchez Notario, as well as property administrators, neighbors, and members of the Municipal Technical Services.
As González de Zárate explained, the neighborhood demands "focus above all on aspects related to the sidewalk, cleanliness, lighting, pedestrian crossings or vehicle speed." In this sense, the councilor has advanced that after the meeting "we have been able to specify quite important issues."
Among them, he has mentioned public lighting "which will be completely renovated next year thanks to the IDAE program and subsidy".
Similarly, the mayor has agreed with the neighborhood representatives on the "need to have rear-loading containers" instead of the side-loading ones that currently exist. On the other hand, the situation of a passage adjacent to Uruguay Street, which is privately owned, but for public use, has also been addressed. “We have to study this issue carefully to determine who is responsible for cleaning, maintenance, or lighting. For this we have agreed to have a meeting shortly” said González de Zárate.
Neighbors have also exposed the need to adopt measures to reduce speed and traffic on the street itself. In this regard, the mayor has indicated that “traffic had been reduced, but now it has increased due to the closure of Beniardá avenue. However, in a few months, it will go down again.” Regarding the speed of the vehicles, he has specified that "we are going to study the measures that can be applied to achieve it".
In addition, in terms of Mobility, the councilor has also advanced that in the existing intersection in the upper part of the street "we will study with the municipal technicians the execution of some action to slow down and we are also studying the feasibility of installing more benches, handrails, repair loose tiles and pavers, etc.”
For her part, the Councilor for Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, stressed that the 'A pie de calle' campaign not only serves to visit works or performances and give information to neighbors "but also, as is the case today, to receive their contributions and proposals and deal with each matter that they tell us”.
Likewise, attendees have been informed of the availability of the Citizen Card, which is currently delivered to registered persons over 50 years of age. "We encourage all those who want to have it to go to the City Council for it," said Pellicer, who recalled that right now "the card is born with ten euros for public transport, but uses will be added as it expands to more age brackets.
Finally, the councilor for Citizenship Participation has insisted that "the deadline for submitting proposals for participatory budgets is still open until November 2" and emphasized that "we have opened the telematic route so that proposals can be made through a digital tool with the aim of receiving the largest number of proposals to have the city model we want”.
