The cycling clubs of Benidorm join the Mobility Week with a tour around the Cycling Ring from Séquia Mare
The bike lane will count more than 40,000 users only with the three control totems installed
Mobility Week dedicates Thursday to cycling. For this reason, this morning, Sol Club and Benidorm Cycling Club, have concentrated on the Km 0 of the Cycling Ring of Levante, in Séquia Mare Park, to tour this infrastructure recently put into operation.
Before starting the journey, the cyclists have held a meeting with technicians of the Department of Mobility and with the head of the area, José Ramón González de Zárate, and also with the participation of the councillor Sports, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the government. "They are two super-collaborating clubs - González de Zárate said - they are always available for any sporting or cultural activity organized by the City Council."
Cyclists have toured Levante Ring "a new performance of the government team subsidized with European funds." Infrastructure "very positive for the whole area of Levante" not only for cycling, but for what it entails regarding "speed reduction" to make Benidorm "a friendlier city".
Coinciding with the Bicycle Day in the European Mobility Week, González de Zárate has announced that “more than 40,000 cyclists” today have been controlled by the totems installed by the City Council at the end of July. 40,000 bicycles have passed through the control points of Avenida de la Comunitat Valenciana (next to the Séquia Mare), that of Avenida de Europa with the Ibiza street, or the Mediterranean one near Ametlla de Mar. Totems that only measure the cycling traffic "not scooters, nor cars."
González de Zárate has also specified that the amount is not the total number of unique users of bicycles since “it is what these three control points have accounted for” and has advanced that in the future they will be incorporated more into the network of bike lanes and urban cycling paths of Benidorm, infrastructure that today reaches 90 km. “It is a very positive fact. I congratulate the city of Benidorm and its citizens because they are doing a very important work. It is good for health, it is good for sustainability and it is good for city mobility. ”
