The City Council has obtained a subsidy from the Provincial Council of Alicante that will also allow the installation of drip irrigation
Benidorm will plant about 300 new trees in Alcalde Vicente Pérez Devesa Avenue
Benidorm City Council will plant about 300 new trees in Alcalde Vicente Pérez Devesa Avenue thanks to a grant by the Provincial Council of Alicante, amounting to 62,521 euros. The Councilor for the Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, has indicated that this subsidy will also allow the installation of the drip irrigation system programmed throughout the area.
The chosen species is the 'tipuana tipu', "a tree of rapid growth" that will propitiate "the creation of shadow zones in an avenue that constitutes the main entrance to Benidorm by Poniente" and that "is usually very used by pedestrians , 'runners' and skaters "who can now travel this way" in a more pleasant way ".
De Zárate explained that "part of the trees" that were planted when the avenue was opened "have not had the expected growth, especially in the central part" of it. Hence, we have opted for this species that "also has a more sustainable maintenance against pests", since it acts against them with useful fauna - releasing insects - instead of phytosanitary treatments.
The project, written by the municipal technicians and subsidized by the Provincial Council of Alicante, also includes the installation of a drip irrigation system programmed "in each cork oak".
