Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat will adapt the route as consideration for the transfer of some land where it will build its service station
Benidorm will have a green circuit that will link La Cala with Colonia Madrid
Benidorm will have a new green circuit that will allow walking or cycling from Colonia Madrid to La Cala, without road traffic. This has been announced today by the Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, after the agreement reached by the municipal corporation with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV), a public company that operates the TRAM, which will receive in exchange the transfer of a small part of the public parking lot where it will build its new service station.
The intention of FGV is to have "an area where a tram can be parked" so that "in the event of any incident, to be able to reach everything that is Line 9 of the TRAM that connects Benidorm with Dénia", González de Zárate clarified to "arrive more quickly" and to be able to replace, if necessary, any faulty unit.
The City Council will give the public company a small part of the adjoining car park on Avenida Beniardà, close to the ‘train’ station. Parking that will continue to have enough space to serve residents and visitors. In return, the public company will adapt the path that starts from the same point so that “those who practice running, cycle or simply want to take a walk” can enjoy it.
The new path will have a width of five meters, "it will be enabled to be used in any emergency", González de Zárate has indicated. For example, “firefighters in case of fire” may circulate through it and it will run “from Avenida de Beniardà to the confluence of Foietes Sports Center, Guillermo Amor”, in a first phase.
This would be the first route of a green ring that would surround the eastern part of the city towards La Cala under study. González de Zárate has clarified that "they are already talking with Ferrocarrils so that from this point of the sports center" the environmental path can be continued "until the confluence with the Terra Mítica stop, in the area of Avenida Juan Pablo II." This performance would become a true "catwalk" for Benidorm, for citizens to "enjoy the environment." "The residents of La Cala will be able to move to Colonia Madrid and those from Colonia Madrid to La Cala" and all this without cars in between.
