The unanimous proposal of the Board of Spokespersons is motivated by its contribution in 1978 to the solution of the water supply of Benidorm
Benidorm will deliver posthumously its City Medal to Cesar Vicedo Bou, mayor of Beniardá during the water crisis
The award will be delivered on December 6 during the institutional act of Constitution Day
Benidorm City Council will award the city's Medal to the former mayor of Beniardá in 1978, César Vicedo Bou, who made possible the prospecting of the wells that managed to solve the city's water supply, in a stage of water supply crisis, Saving the model and the tourist brand, with which the creation of a very efficient water policy began.
César Vicedo died in Beniardá, at the age of 87.
The unanimous proposal of the Board of Spokespersons indicates the institutional recognition and public tribute to the mayor who was the first democratic mayor of Beniardá (1979-1983) and was re-elected again between 1999 and 2011.
Under his presidency, and after continuous negotiations with technicians and mayors of Benidorm, Beniardá City Council Plenary approved on August 28, 1978, to authorize the drilling of wells on land that today is owned by Benidorm City Council. The first of the wells, Beniardá I, became operational on March 25, 1979. Beniardá's groundwater made it possible to save the situation in Benidorm and return to a normalized supply while marking the start of the water policy that has turned Benidorm and the Marina Baixa Water Consortium into a benchmark in the management of such a precious resource.
Mayor Toni Pérez has highlighted upon hearing the sad and unfortunate news that "Vicedo never asked for anything because of his gesture and for making a region he faced everything, favoring relations between the municipalities."
Vicedo pointed out in an interview in 2019 that "a neighboring town had a very big problem", and since "the solution could be in Beniardá", he supported it. Benidorm collaborates since then in the Patron Saint Festivities of the town.
The delivery of the City Medal and the institutional recognition and public tribute will take place on December 6, during the institutional act of Constitution Day.
