Benidorm, voting headquarters for the Bulgarian and Romanian elections this Sunday
Residents of these nationalities will be able to elect their country's representatives in the European Parliament
Benidorm will be the voting venue this Sunday for the elections to the European Parliament called by the governments of Romania and Bulgaria, so that residents of these nationalities will be able to elect their representatives to the European institution from the city, as long as they have not expressed the intention to participate in the election of Spanish candidates. This was reported today by the councillor for Foreign Residents, Jaime Jesús Pérez, who pointed out that Bulgarian citizens are also called to the polls to participate in the country's National Assembly elections.
As reported by Pérez, both voting centres will be located in the facilities of Palau d'Esports l'Illa, specifically on Carrer de Pilota, which will be divided into two separate and differentiated sections, one per country, with independent accesses.
After evaluating several options, it has been considered that this location “is ideal due to the availability of parking and its proximity to the link with the AP-7, an important issue since citizens of both resident nationalities will travel to Benidorm to exercise their right to vote. in various parts of the province of Alicante.”
The mayor explained that "Benidorm already has previous experiences in organizing voting centres for elections in other countries that have signed an agreement with Spain, always trying to provide maximum collaboration to consular services and making the necessary municipal resources available to them. ”. Pérez pointed out that "both the Consulate General of Romania and Bulgaria have chosen Benidorm due to the volume of fellow citizens who have established their residence in our city."
For voters from Romania, the voting centre will be operational from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and the one in Benidorm is one of the four electoral headquarters in the province of Alicante and of the 20 enabled by the Consulate throughout the Valencian Community. In the case of Bulgarian citizens, they will be able to vote between 07:00 and 20:00. From the Consulate of this country, 23 electoral headquarters have been established for the Valencian Community, the region of Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha and the Balearic Islands.
In the last election, just over a hundred Bulgarian citizens exercised their right to vote from Benidorm, while in the call for the 2020 European Parliament, more than 450 residents of Romania did the same.
