Today, Benidorm City Council supported the Civil Guard in the celebrations held in the city for Spain's National Day and the festivity of Our Lady of Pilar, patroness saint of the Armed Forces.
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councillor for Public Security, Jesús Carrobles, accompanied officers from Benidorm Traffic Detachment and their families at a midday mass at the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Almudena. Other members of the local council also participated, including José Ramón González de Zárate, the regional deputy. Also in attendance were Senator Agustín Almodóbar, members of other security forces, such as the commissioner of the National Police, Luis Manuel Sánchez, and the superintendent of the Local Police, Luis Martín Arévalo, as well as the new local head of Civil Protection, José Vicente Fuster.
Representatives of numerous festive, social, and religious organisations in the municipality also attended, including the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Pascual Sánchez and Aitana Pérez Guitiérrez, as well as residents of the Foietes-Colonia Madrid neighbourhood, closely associated with the Civil Guard.
After the Eucharistic celebration, the mayor and councillors participated in the wine of honour offered by the Civil Guard to their families and collaborators in the courtyard of the city's headquarters. There, the lieutenant commander of the Benidorm Traffic Detachment, Manuel Alberto Sánchez, thanked the mayor for "the support and selfless collaboration" that the City Council provides to the Civil Guard in their daily work.
