The woman, 44 years old and with two children from a previous relationship, was murdered by her partner with several stab wounds to the neck
Benidorm shows its strongest condemnation and rejection of the sexist crime committed in the neighboring municipality of L'Alfàs del Pi
Today, Wednesday, Benidorm City Council expressed its absolute rejection and condemnation of the latest sexist murder that took place in the neighbouring municipality of L'Alfàs del Pi. The rejection has materialized in a silent rally at the Town Hall square, which has been led by the first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer. Along with this, the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and numerous members of the municipal corporation have shown their unanimous rejection of this crime.
The victim is a 44-year-old woman whose body was found yesterday morning by the Civil Guard after forcibly opening the door of the house where she lived with her attacker. Her body had several stab wounds in her neck. The alleged perpetrator, 52 years old and with a history of complaints of mistreatment by a previous partner, has already been arrested by the Civil Guard in a hostess club in the town of Cox, in Vega Baja.
Thus, so far this year, three women have already lost their lives as a result of sexist violence. Since 2003, the year in which victims began to be counted, 1,243 women have been murdered by gender violence.
The Department of Equality, whose delegate is Councilor Ángela Zaragozí, recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
