Benidorm sets the bases to position itself as the most accessible sun and beach destination in Spain
The City Council begins its collaboration with PREDIF, which has included the city in its 'Guide to Urban Accessible Getaways'
Benidorm has already laid the foundations to position itself as the most accessible sun and beach destination in Spain. A task in which the Town Council, Visit Benidorm Foundation and the State Representative Platform for People with Physical Disabilities (PREDIF), a non-profit organization in the field of accessible tourism, will be involved.
This Thursday, during the celebration of the Madrid Tourism Fair (Fitur), the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the president of the entity, Francisco Sardón, have signed an agreement to position Benidorm as a paradigm of accessibility. For now, the city has been included in the 'Guide to Urban Accessible Getaways' edited by PREDIF.
According to the terms of this agreement, in order to make Benidorm a reference destination in accessible tourism, it is essential to develop Benidorm Tourism Accessibility Plan, with initiatives, projects and programs aimed at improving the accessibility of the environment , products and tourist services of the city.
As it was advanced some days ago, this plan will follow the requirements of the standard UNE 178501 Management System of smart tourist destinations, which Segittur is testing in Benidorm; and also it will be promoted through the TUR4all accessible tourism platform, its website and its mobile app.
Among the actions included in the agreement are, among others, studies to determine the accessibility of Benidorm's tourist offer; training municipal staff linked to tourism in terms of accessibility and attention to public with disabilities or other diverse needs; publishing the accessible tourist offer of the city; sensitizing the agents and operators of the sector about the importance of customers with accessibility needs, which is a growing market; and eliminating architectural barriers in municipal facilities and services.
