Thus the City Council enables new areas for sports and walks
Benidorm reopens Elche Park and Séquia Mare Park, although playgrounds and rest areas are still closed
The mayor reminds that safety distances must be maintained as well as follow the guidelines set by health authorities
Benidorm City Council reopens today Elche Park and Séquia Mare Park, although playgrounds and bio-healthy areas will be closed, as well as the urban furniture and rest areas and public bathrooms, as reported by the mayor, Toni Pérez . With the opening of both green areas “we enable new spaces so that citizens can do sports and walks now that the Government of Spain has authorized outgoings for these purposes in certain time zones, while avoiding crowds in other points of the city".
The mayor explained that "we have chosen to open Elche Park to give continuity to pedestrian traffic on the first line of Poniente beach, and Séquia Mare Park because it was conceived as a space of leisure and sports, and therefore ideal for fans of 'running', cycling or long walks ”.
Toni Pérez has clarified that "the opening of these spaces will be partial, since in Elche Park we are going to maintain playgrounds and bio-healthy areas closed, just as they are in the rest of the city"; while "in Séquia Mare Park it will not be possible to use the skate park and the‘ bowl ’since in these spaces it is more difficult to guarantee that the safety distances are respected". The benches and rest areas of both facilities will also be closed to prevent the concentration of people, as well as public toilets.
At this point, the mayor stressed that "health authorities indicate that maintaining the safety distance of two meters is the best prevention against the coronavirus", and reminded that "the guidelines set by the health authority must be followed when doing sport or taking walks ”.
Lastly, he indicated that "progressively and depending on how the health situation evolves, we will reopen other green areas of the city to the public, as long as absolute safety can be guaranteed in relation to distances."
