Benidorm renews the road markings in Colonia Madrid district
Benidorm City Council, through its Departments of Mobility and Urban Scene, is improving road markings and road safety in Colonia Madrid neighbourhood. This involves repainting all the existing road markings on the asphalt of all the neighbourhood's urban roads. The project falls under the Alicante Provincial Council's Infrastructure and Municipal Assistance Grants program: Plan +CERCA 2023.
The contractor is using two teams to complete the work this week. As explained by Councillor Francis Muñoz, the repainting will affect pedestrian crossings, road markings, and the delineation of the green and orange regulated parking zones. The councillor visited the site this morning to inspect the progress of the work, the results of which are already visible in some areas.
The comprehensive project for road markings was drafted by the Municipal Technical Services Office and included work on urban roads in Benidorm. The objective, according to Muñoz, is "to address the urgent need for maintenance in particularly sensitive areas, such as school zones and medical centres." He added that "this action will directly result in greater safety for all road users."
The execution of these works throughout the municipality has a budget of €573,984.38, of which €439,738 is provided by the Alicante Provincial Council through the aforementioned +CERCA 2023 Plan grant program. The remaining €134,246.38 is paid by the City Council.
The Councillor for Urban Scene and Mobility emphasised that thanks to this investment, "we are achieving significant savings in social costs, as well as in potential liability arising from inadequate signage." Therefore, he continued, “the project was drafted to renew all the signage that was in an undesirable state throughout the municipality.”
