Benidorm renews and replaces the underground and surface containers of l'Hort de Colón

Benidorm City Council has begun the renovation and replacement work of the current underground and surface containers of Hort de Colón, in an initiative that will be extended to other areas of the city since, as explained by the Councilor for Street Cleaning, José Ramón González de Zárate, “most of them date from 2007 and 2008 and many of them were out of service”.

The first ones that are already being changed are located at the confluence of Tomás Ortuño and Mercado streets, where two underground solid urban waste collection modules (organic) will be placed with a capacity for 4,400 liters and three recycling islands for containers, glass, and cardboard paper with a capacity of 3,600 liters each.

These tasks will be completed next Thursday, as indicated by the councilor, who has also clarified that "it is an area where a lot of recycling material is deposited due to a large number of population and establishments." The emptying of these containers will be carried out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of the year.

González de Zárate pointed out that the area of l'Hort de Colón had up to now "underground containers that had been closed for years and with other containers on the surface, so with this action, we gain in capacity, image and accessibility since the people will be able to move much better on public roads”.

The mayor has taken the opportunity to make "an appeal to the neighbors to deposit their glass waste in non-rest hours and remind them that paper and packaging can be deposited in their containers at any time of the day." Regarding the organic matter, González de Zárate has clarified that "we must act as if it were a normal container on the surface and waste can only be thrown at night to avoid dirt and bad smells."

The Councilor for Street Cleaning has also stressed that "a technical decision has been made to gain security, such as that the collection is done by means of a crane truck so that neither the laborer nor the driver has to enter the container." Finally, the mayor has advanced that this same action will also be carried out in Alfredo Corral street and  at Plaza del Infante "until reaching all areas of Benidorm with the renovation of underground containers."
