Benidorm receives 'Los Hispanos'
Toni Pérez wishes them "the best preparation for the imminent World Championship" and Carlos Mazón, president of the Provincial Council, proposes "to be the province of Spanish Handball"
The mayor of Benidorm Toni Pérez together with the president of Alicante Provincial Counci,l Carlos Mazón and the president of the federation, Francisco Blázquez, have received at noon in the Plenary Hall of the town hall the components and technical staff of the Spanish Handball Team, "Los Hispanos", who will play in Benidorm, from January 5 to 7, against the national teams of Argentina, Romania and Bahrain, the 47th International Men's Handball Tournament in Spain.
Pérez welcomed them and offered the hospitality of the city, wishing the runners-up in Europe "the best preparation for the imminent World Championship" to be held in Poland and Sweden, from January 11 to 29. The mayor pointed out the inclination of the city for handball and support for the local team, which plays in Loja ASOBAL, recalling that many of the members of the Spanish team have faced TM Balonmano Benidorm in competition.
Toni Pérez has highlighted "the pride of receiving them in the Plenary Hall" and has been pleased that Benidorm is now "a benchmark in Handball, as it is in international tourism" by hosting this tournament and hosting the finals of the Championship of Spain of Autonomous Selections (CESA).
The president of the Provincial Council, Carlos Mazón, explained to the players and coaching staff that the act itself constituted "the gratitude of people of Benidorm for the sensations transmitted by 'Los Hispanos'" in sports competitions. Mazón thanked them for "being a reference" for new generations and announced his support for this sports discipline to be, Alicante, "the province of Spanish Handball".
To the Championship of Spain of Autonomous Teams that is celebrated from January 3 to 8 in different venues of the province –Benidorm, La Nucía, Altea, l'Alfás del Pi, Villajoyosa, Benissa, Mutxamnel, Sant Joan d'Alcant, Alicante and Callosa d'En Sarriá- with 14,000 young athletes in the children's, cadet and youth categories, both male and female, we must add the International Women's Tournament that took "Las Guerreras”, the women's team, to Torrevieja last October.
At the reception this morning, the president of the Spanish Handball Federation, Francisco Blázquez, pointed out that "our team will be able to live up to this transcendental tournament in preparation for the World Cup", I highlight the support of Benidorm and Alicante Provincial Council reviewing "the support of the province for handball" and congratulated Balonmano Benidorm and its president Javier Abínzano for the work.
The table was completed by the deputy for sports, Bernabé Cano, the sports councilor of Benidorm City Council, Mariló Cebreros, and the capitan of "Los Hispanos", Gedeón Guardiola, from Petrel, who thanked "the effort to bring this competition" to Benidorm and the good weather that encouraged to enjoy it.
Guardiola appealed to the fans to support the "Hispanics" who will play the three games of the 47 TIE tomorrow, Thursday, at 6:00 p.m., against Rumnnía; on Friday the 6th, at 7:00 p.m., against Bahrain and on Saturday the 7th, again at 6:00 p.m., against Argentina.
