Benidorm reaffirms its commitment to equality in the commemoration of International Women's Day

Benidorm City Council has reaffirmed this Friday its commitment to effective equality between men and women in the commemoration of International Women's Day, which is celebrated tomorrow, March 8, in many countries around the world to vindicate the role of women in our society and advance real equality of rights between the two genders. The Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España has hosted this afternoon the placement of a banner with a large purple bow with which the Benidorm City Council has joined this claim, in an event in which the acting mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, participated, together with other councillors of the municipal Corporation and representatives of women's groups in the city.
The events to mark 8M in Benidorm began last Monday and, throughout the week, have included various activities, mostly within the cultural sphere and in which the collaboration of different associations has been counted on. Thus, throughout the week there has been a talk on female empowerment by Anémona Marina Baixa; a painting exhibition by the Association of Housewives; a meeting to expand knowledge about the creativity and traditions of Moroccan women organized together with the association Al Amal Esperanza Benidorm; a concert by the Coral Canfali of the Association of Housewives; and a concert-conference that, under the title of 'Identities', was offered by researchers Rosario Tur and Gema Martínez, accompanied on the piano by María Eugenia Palomares and Marisa Blanes.
This last conference-concert took place yesterday afternoon, Thursday, in the Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Hall, and the speakers made a historical review of the legacy of great women of music, science and society and how they managed to stand out in their respective disciplines despite the difficulties of being a woman in the era in which they lived.
The councillor Ángela Zaragozí has recalled that, in addition to the placement of the protest banner that took place this afternoon, this afternoon fifty women from Benidorm will also participate in the XXIV Meeting of Women of the Marina Baixa, which this year is being held in Polop.
Tomorrow, Saturday, March 8, Anémona is organizing one more year the traditional Women's Lunch, which will take place in the restaurant of the Nautical Club, while on Sunday, at 7 pm, the performance of the play 'Las couchers. Charlas de azucarillo' will take place, within the Culture for Equality program.
This play will take place in the auditorium of Benidorm Cultural Centre.
To attend, it is necessary to have the invitations that have been distributed free of charge on Thursday and Friday to all those interested in attending the Jelena Social Centre.
