The project of 'Renovation and improvement of the water infrastructure in Mallorca Street' is already in the bidding process, as confirmed by the Councilor for Works and Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, who has advanced that the work "could be already underway by the end of this month ”. De Zárate highlighted that this action includes “the renovation of all public water, electricity, and telecommunications services, as well as the urban scene with the installation of new flooring, trees and furniture.

The mayor has stressed that this road is "one of the most important enclaves of British tourism" and that the intention of the City Council is that the work "is completely finished -or at least in the absence of the last auctions- when the tourists of this nationality ”, so that they find“ a totally new Mallorca street ”as“ the mayor, Toni Pérez, promised ”.

This renovation covers the stretch of Mallorca Street between Ibiza and Mediterráneo Avenue and is valued at around 945,000 euros, which is financed through the 2020-2027 Renewal Fund of the water contract. De Zárate has advanced that "after this renovation, the entire Mallorca street will be pedestrianized", since it has been included as "it improves the pedestrianization of the only section in which vehicles still circulate, between Gerona and the Mediterranean. This pedestrianization is proposed at the request of "the residents, merchants and businessmen of this section".

Regarding hydraulic infrastructures, the current drinking water pipeline will be replaced and a wastewater collector will be created to connect with the new network of Avenida del Mediterráneo. The replacement of the rainwater network is also planned, incorporating a new one, as well as the installation of hydrants. Actions "aimed at improving efficiency and reducing maintenance costs".

In addition, all the lighting will be renewed with the installation of "powerful" LED luminaires as it is a section "with a lot of passage of people"; the entire section of work will be repaved with asphalt printed in different colors, resulting in "a fully accessible single platform system". The project also includes “maintaining the existing palm trees and replanting the missing ones”.

The bidding period ends on February 8.
