The contract, valued at €665,784, is part of the 'Green Benidorm' PSTD and, in addition to renewing this ornamental lighting, will improve energy efficiency by 40%

Benidorm puts out to tender the renovation of the lamppost on Paseo de Levante

Benidorm licita la rehabilitación de las columnas ‘Andrea’ del Paseo de Levante

The Urban Scene Councillor emphasises that "this project completes the renovation of the hung festoon lights and continues to modernise one of Benidorm's busiest places."

The Local Government Board (LGB) of Benidorm City Council has approved today the tender for the renovation of the ornamental lighting on Paseo de Levante, the so-called "Andrea" lampposts, for a total of €665,784. This has been announced today by the Councilor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz, who noted that this project "is part of the Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan (PSTD) 'Verde Benidorm' and will involve not only the renovation of these characteristic and emblematic elements of the Levante waterfront, but also an improvement in energy efficiency and, therefore, a reduction in emissions, consumption, and expenditure."

Specifically, the project envisages restoring the structures that support the interior cylinder that forms the "Andrea" luminaire, which dates back to the 1990s; replacing this same cylinder and the interior floodlights that illuminate it; and equipping them with a new electrical and control system for supply and smart management. Thanks to LED technology, installed power is reduced by 40%, thus meeting energy efficiency requirements.

Muñoz explained that there are currently 22 units of these luminaires, 18 of which are distributed along the promenade and four are located at the intersection of Europa Avenue and the beachfront. Based on the project approved last May, these four "Andreas" lampposts will be removed to create more space free of elements.

The councilor emphasized that "after more than three decades of service facing the sea, the structure of these 'Andrea' columns shows significant rust, hence the need to restore them so they once again look their best and blend in with the surrounding environment, which is one of the busiest areas in Benidorm." For this comprehensive restoration process, all the columns will be dismantled and their components refinished. They will receive specific treatment to minimize the impact of the marine environment and "guarantee a life expectancy of more than 15 years in areas subject to high humidity and/or harsh conditions."

The pipeline wiring will also be renewed, and a new fibre optic circuit and control nodes will be installed for smart management. This will allow the 'Andreas' to change the colour of their lighting, just like the promenade's overhead lines.

The Urban Scene Councilor reported that "the project has an eight-month execution period, so taking into account the entire bidding and contracting process, the forecast is that these elements will be fully renovated by the 2026 summer season." Finally, he added that this project "completes the modernization and updating of the lighting elements of the first Levante line, which we began with the renovation of the hung festoon lights from El Torrejó to Avenida de Europa, which entailed an investment of 1.9 million euros."

"This important project was fully funded with municipal resources, with the resources of the people of Benidorm, given the lack of investment, once again, from the Spanish government."
