Benidorm City Council, through the Department of the Environment, directed by José Ramón González de Zárate, has adhered to the campaign promoted by WWF: 'Earth Hour', which will take place on March 24, in all the world.
That day, and from 8:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m., the lights of monuments, streets, businesses and homes in thousands of cities will be turned off, to become aware of the problem and to know the importance of participating in the defense of the environment.
Benidorm Town Hall will turn off the lights of the garlands of the Levante Beach, the lighting of Paseo de Poniente, and "La Cruz" monument located in Serra Gelada Natural Park, all emblematic places of the city.
In 2017, more than 7,000 cities and 153 countries turned off the lights of their main monuments and emblematic buildings, thus sending a clear message, since symbolic gestures can generate great changes if a global commitment is achieved throughout the year. 'Earth Hour' is the biggest call to action against climate change and will get millions of people from the six continents to turn off the light at the same time for one hour.
The Department of the Environment encourages individuals, companies and other institutions and administrations to commit and act in favor of sustainability by turning off the lights for an hour.
