The government will propose to the Mobility Council to make pedestrian new spaces temporarily to gain walking areas and space for terraces

Benidorm opens partially l’Aigüera Park for walks and sports

Benidorm abre parcialmente el Parque de l’Aigüera para pasear y hacer deporte

Benidorm City Council opens today partially l'Aigüera Park to increase the spaces for walking and sports in this phase 0 of the retrintions lifting plan, once the Government of Spain has authorized outgoings for these purposes in different time zones. The mayor, Toni Pérez, explained that “just as we did on Monday with Elche and Séquia Mare parks, we are going to enable the promenade area, leaving the spaces for social interaction closed, such as playgrounds and bio-healthy areas, multi-sports court, benches and amphitheatres ”. Public toilets will also be closed.

Toni Pérez has pointed out that "we want that, in addition to comfort, citizens have the maximum sanitary guarantees in their outings and hence, following the recommendations for the prevention of infections, the areas most likely to generate social contact remain closed "

The mayor has indicated that "our intention is to continue giving more spaces to citizens in their outings, and gradually reopening the green areas in Benidorm." In this sense, he stressed that "in recent years we have been giving more and more prominence to pedestrians in our city, expanding sidewalks, making pedestrian streets, and generating more and more areas in which to practice sport, a bet that has proven to have many advantages from the beginning and especially in the current situation ”.

For this reason, he stressed that "we want to continue working in this line of work"; and it has advanced that the local government and municipal technicians are going to submit to the Mobility Advisory Council this Friday, May 8, a proposal to "increase pedestrian spaces while the situation generated by the Covid-19 crisis persists and its consequences ”.

This proposal,"has a dual purpose." On the one hand, "citizens have more space during their outings to walk or play sports, thus avoiding concentrations of people"; and on the other hand, to facilitate the return to the activity of bars and cafes, allowing that "part of these spaces can be temporarily allocated to the redistribution of terraces of these establishments, while maintaining the limited capacity decreed by the Government of Spain ”.
