Benidorm Local Police already has a state-of-the-art drone detection and inhibition equipment with the ability to locate both the unmanned aircraft and the pilot who operates it. It has the ability to inhibit the frequencies and the ability to position in the last extreme if necessary.
These equipment have already been used and have paid off by locating an evolving drone in the Castle area on Wednesday afternoon. After detecting it, the signal's operating area was located and the units of the Beach Section were immediately notified that they located the pilot. By not complying with all the administrative requirements to operate it, he was identified and the necessary data for his sanction proposal was collected by the State Agency for Aviation Safety, informing the individual of the requirements that he must meet to be able to carry out this activity with respect to the current legislation and with guarantees on the safety of people.
The Air Unit of the Local Police of Benidorm, in addition to the vigilant attention to the beaches and areas with large crowds of people, musical and sporting events that take place in Benidorm, now starts this service for the detection, location and identification of drones and operators of the same, attending to the flight regulations of the same and the protection of the rights of people and their safety. Benidorm has a Regulation for the use of unmanned aircraft drawn up in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Valencia.
Councilor Lorenzo Martínez, Head of Security, after celebrating the usefulness of these new equipment, stressed that “Benidorm continues in the line of innovation in this field, collaborating with institutions and organizations and applying technology to new tasks that will be more and more usual ”. Martínez recalled that Benidorm Local Police Air Unit is a pioneer in Spain in the use of drones.
The councilor pointed out that “this new service of the Benidorm Local Police has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the System Drone Spain company, which for years has been linked to the City Council and Benidorm Local Police Corps, putting us once again at the forefront technology to improve our operations and offer a better service to Benidorm ”.
Benidorm has been very active in recent months in drone developments and range technology. In addition to the droneVodafone Event with 5G technology, in Benidorm - on January 30, 2020 Benidorm hosted the first world flight of drones in a real urban environment controlled by the 5G network beyond the pilot's line of sight - they take place in this city the tests on two important projects promoted by the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) in the field of Urban Air Mobility (UAM), in which entities such as Airbus, Correos, Catec or Eurocontrol collaborate, aimed at implementing the use of drones for delivery of parcels and small merchandise.
Benidorm was selected along with other European cities for these tests by the European Space Agency (ESA), taking into account the work and developments of drone technology and the collaboration with forces and police forces of these air units, the first two congresses having been held in Benidorm about police drones with the assistance of the DGT, UME and other international drone units.
