Benidorm has joined another year to 'The Earth Hour', an initiative launched in 2007 from WWF - the Association for the Defense of Nature, to fight against climate change, which has become a symbol in favor of sustainability.
'The Earth Hour' will be held this Saturday, March 25, starting at 20.30 hours in more than 220 cities worldwide. For 60 minutes, the lights of the main buildings, monuments or locations of each of them will be turned off in protest and to claim the reduction of CO2 emissions.
In the case of Benidorm, the Department of Environment has chosen to leave three of the most emblematic points of the city without light: Paseo de Levante; Paseo de Poniente; and the monument of the Cruz of Serra Gelada, a space visible from a good part of the municipal term.
The councilor for the Environment, José Ramón González de Zárate, has indicated that "in addition to the institutional initiative to turn off the lights of our promenades and La Cruz, any citizen can participate individually in this 'Earth Hour' turning off the lights of their homes between 8.30 and 9.30 on Saturday. "
