Benidorm invests 150,000 euros in cemeteries for the celebration of All Saints Festivity

The Virgin of Suffrage will have a new public space that will soon be presented at the Advisory Council of Urban Scene

This morning, the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the councilor of Cemeteries, Angela Llorca, and the councillor of Equality, Paquita Ripoll, accompanied by staff and technicians of the Department, have visited the municipal cemeteries Virgen de Sufragio and San Jaime, where there have recently been works of adaptation and improvement for the celebration on November 1, All Saints Festivities.

Regarding the work carried out, the mayor said that "around 150,000 euros have been invested in the two cemeteries." Specifically in the Virgin of Sufragio has been fixed a wall "with risk of fall that was damaging properties of burial", which has supposed a disbursement around the 35,000 euros. In addition, the maintenance and painting work has been carried out, a new light box has been installed and "prunings have been carried out on the trees that stained the pantheons". Between the two burial grounds around 6,000 new ornamental plants have been placed.

Regarding the cemetery of San Jaime, Toni Pérez, highlighted the change of the door of the chapel and "the construction of two islets of niches with an investment of around 90,000 euros." "It has also proceeded," said the mayor, "to the integral cleaning of the cross donated by the Brotherhood of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno coinciding with its 50th anniversary" and have attended works of painting, lighting and arrangement of sidewalks.

Toni Pérez recalled that after the demolition of an old restoration establishment that was next to the old cemetery everything is redady, toilets and access area" and has announced that the Department of Urbanism, in collaboration with Urban Scene and Cemeteries will soon present "a magnificent work" to endow this new space with "a new image". Toni Pérez has stressed that this action will be presented shortly in the Urban Scene Council to "proceed to its approval" and to provide a budget "sufficient" for the upcoming exercise. "A new municipal space," said Pérez, "for the enjoyment of all those who come to visit the cemetery and the surrounding neighborhood."
