The work, which will end this month, will allow smoother traffic and greater road safety in areas with a large tourist influx
Benidorm improves mobility and accessibility with a new roundabout at the junction of Ibiza, Filipinas and Bernat de Sarrià streets
Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Mobility, is executing the construction of a new roundabout at the junction of Ibiza, Filipinas and Bernat de Sarrià streets to improve traffic, facilitate turns and increase accessibility in one of the areas with the highest tourist flow in the city, surrounded by several hotel establishments.
The Councilor for Mobility, José Ramón González de Zárate, has described the performance as "very important" for road traffic in the area "due to the large influx of cars and buses."
The councillor has indicated that the municipal department detected "a mobility problem at this point" and it was agreed with the hotels to now execute the action "taking advantage of the fact that they are closed" after verifying that there were traffic jam problems "especially on days of flea market ”, which caused traffic-jams and a large flow of vehicles on Ibiza Street.
With this action, explained González de Zárate, "we improve mobility and accessibility" with the creation of four zebra crossings "so that there are no road safety problems with pedestrians." Once the roundabout is finished "the traffic will go much more fluid".
In addition, the urban scene and the aesthetics of the area will be improved with a landscaped area and a fountain that will be located inside the roundabout.
The works covers an area of approximately 650 square meters and the works will be completed before the end of this month.
