The municipal technical services install a railing and benches on the steepest section of the road
Benidorm improves the accessibility of Nicaragua Street after a neighborhood request
A brigade from the municipal technical services has already completed the work to improve accessibility on Nicaragua strret, specifically on the steepest section of the road, located next to Avenida Jaime I.
The action responds to a request made by the residents of the neighbourhood to facilitate transit for older people, for whom the slope of the road made it difficult for them to walk. For this reason, a railing has been installed and some benches have been placed so that they can rest while they walk.
The Councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that "at the end of last year we met the residents of the area, who told us that it was very difficult for them to go up to their homes because of the slope." Given this demand, and to improve accessibility at this point "we have placed a railing in two sections to help these people and also benches for their rest."
González de Zárate has specified that this is "the first performance", although he clarified that "it will not be the last because we are studying more options to improve even more". At the moment, he has pointed out, "we have had a good acceptance by the neighbours, who have considered that it has been a quick and important activity and that they already notice when they go up".
