Benidorm improve water treatment in the WWTP by a system of latest technology

08 February 2017
Benidorm mejora el tratamiento de agua en la EDAR con un sistema de última tecnología

The new magnetic levitation turbocharger provides energy savings and a reduction in C02 emissions

The City Council has invested 120,000 euros and the mayor claims regional investments in the treatment plant

Benidorm City Council has improved the treatment of water in the Sewage Treatment Plant (EDAR) with the installation of a state-of-the-art aeration system, a magnetic levitation turbocharger. In addition to improving the process of biological treatment of wastewater, this system will allow significant savings in energy consumption and "a reduction of economic and environmental costs," explained the Mayor, Toni Perez.

Perez visited this morning the facilities of the WWTP along with those responsible for the same and accompanied by the councilman of Water, José Ramón González de Zárate.

The mayor recalled that "municipal investment" in this equipment amounts to 120,000 euros, coming from the savings achieved by the City in the last year to promote and implement energy efficiency measures. However, thanks to the improvements offered by the awarded company, it has managed to raise the investment in the WWTP to 160,000 euros.

As detailed, this equipment is "a technological breakthrough" and "affects the energy consumption and working times and quality" biological treatment of wastewater. He also stressed that this municipal investment has acted as a "locomotive effect", since after the acquisition of this aeration equipment by the City Council has achieved "the commitment of the Generalitat" to "invest in a turbocharger with similar characteristics" .

In this regard, the mayor has taken advantage of to claim autonomous financing for the WWTP of Benidorm, "one of the five most important of the Valencian Community" and that also treats the residual waters of all the municipality of l'Alfàs del Pi and part Of La Nucia and Finestrat.

Pérez has indicated that since the Generalitat "has not been investing as it should be" in the treatment plant for some time, adding that in the area of works and improvements "almost five years have been lost". Therefore, it has proposed that the Public Entity for Wastewater Sanitation (EPSAR) "recover the fund for improvements" and that "in addition to financing the sanitation and purification of small municipalities, part of the remainder of the royalty paid by Benidorm is reinvested in The city network ", and more specifically in the pumping stations.

The last supramunicipal investment was made last year, when the Provincial Council of Alicante allocated 360,000 euros in six performances in several stations to ensure pumping at peak times of consumption and minimize breakdowns and incidents.
