Benidorm City Council once again has expressed today, Thursday, with a minute of silence its rejection and condemnation of the latest confirmed sexist murder in the last few hours in our country, which has ended the life of a 58-year-old woman murdered by her husband last Tuesday in Seville.

The silent demonstration took place at midday at the door of the City Hall and was led by Mayor Toni Pérez and other members of the Municipal Corporation, who have thus expressed their unanimous rejection of this new sexist murder.

With the confirmation of this new crime, the statistics on the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain have risen to 32 so far in 2024 and to 1,276 since 2003, when these data began to be collected.

The Equality Department headed by Councillor Ángela Zaragozí, reminds that Benidorm City Council has staff specialised in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. The agency also reiterates that victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the call log of mobile phones. This service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.

Likewise, in an emergency, you can call 112 or the emergency telephone numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If it is impossible to make a call and in the event of a dangerous situation, you can use the ALERTCOPS application, from which an alert signal will be sent to the police with geolocation. All these means of assistance can be activated by the victim and also by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender violence. It is a duty of all society.
