The work to improve accessibility on three of the cemetery's main roads has also been completed

Benidorm expands the capacity of the Sant Jaume Cemetery with the construction of 40 new niches

Benidorm amplía la capacidad del cementerio de Sant Jaume con la construcción de 40 nuevos nichos

Benidorm City Council has completed the work that began a month and a half ago to expand the number of niches in the Sant Jaume Cemetery. Specifically, the expansion consisted of the construction of a module with 40 niches on one side, consisting of four levels and ten niches per level, with the same finish as the existing ones.

The work basically consisted of constructing a foundation slab to serve as the base of the niches, constructing them using modular tunnel-type formwork, and enclosing the sides with exposed brick and stone paint. The module's sloping roof is made of curved ceramic tiles, and the perimeter paving has also been completed with stamped concrete.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, visited the construction site this morning and noted that this construction "will guarantee the burial of the deceased in Benidorm until a larger project is undertaken in a few months to significantly increase the cemetery's capacity." Pérez also emphasised raising awareness among family members, saying, "We are avoiding aggravating the grief caused by the loss by not being able to bury the deceased in the manner desired by the family."

This project has involved an investment of €41,633.99.
Furthermore, work has also been completed to improve accessibility on several streets in the cemetery, specifically three, which now have a single platform to help improve access for people with reduced mobility. This single platform has also been made with stamped concrete. This intervention corresponds to an improvement that was included in the previous cemetery expansion.
