Benidorm doubles grants for schoolchildren with learning difficulties

10 April 2017
Benidorm duplica las ayudas a escolares con dificultades de aprendizaje

The first phase of the grant for psychopedagogical treatments has been paid to 56 students compared to the 22 of the previous year

Benidorm City Council has doubled this year the subsidies granted to families in the city to pay partially the cost of private psycho-pedagogical treatments that receive students with learning difficulties and / or adaptation disorders. According to the figures provided by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who also has the responsibilities of Education, "for the year 2017, 87.5% of the applications received have been taken care and 56 grants have been granted compared to 22 last year ".

Pérez explained that "the total amount of this grant amounts to 67,104.75 euros," adding that "it has been necessary to extend the initial economic provision envisaged and approved until practically doubled." Thus to the 36,813.70 euros budgeted, "we have had to add an additional 30,291.05 euros to cover the request made by the parents of these students, who study in the different colleges and institutes of Benidorm."

The treatments that can be afforded with these grants are those aimed at overcoming literacy and / or learning difficulties, improving oral language, treating school maladjustment and conduct disorders, and those of early stimulation - external to the municipal service-.

The mayor said that "more and more families are interested in this program, as is evident in the number of applications," and added that "from the Department of Education we respond to this interest by increasing the funds to be able to serve the as many students as possible and help their families to continue with these treatments, which are very beneficial to schools. "

The first phase of this grant, which runs from January and June, has already been paid to the beneficiaries. The payment of the second, the one corresponding to the period from August to December, will be made in the second half of the year, once the families justify the treatment received by the students in the first half of 2017
