Benidorm declares a day of official mourning for the death of councilor Mari Luz Navarro
The lying in state will be set up from midday today at the Marina Baixa Funeral Home, where the funeral will take place tomorrow at 12:00 noon.
Benidorm City Council has declared a day of official mourning for the death of Councilor Mari Luz Navarro Fuster, a member of the Socialist municipal group, who passed away last night at the age of 63.
As such, the official flags located in various public spaces throughout the city will fly at half-mast from noon today, in recognition of the work and public service provided by Mari Luz Navarro during her time as a councillor for Benidorm City Council during the last two terms, from 2019 until the present.
On behalf of the City Council and the city, Mayor Toni Pérez joined in the grief of family and friends and expressed his condolences for this loss, conveying his “support and affection in these sad and painful moments.”
A councillor for the PSPV-PSOE since 2019, Mari Luz Navarro served as deputy spokesperson for the Socialist municipal group from October 2022 until the municipal elections of May 2023, in which she was re-elected.
In addition to holding various positions within the PSPV-PSOE, she was president of the Grup Carta de Poblament (a local social group) and was deeply involved in the city's festivals and social clubs.
The wake will be held from noon today in Room 4 of the Marina Baixa Funeral Home, located in La Vila Joiosa. The funeral service will take place tomorrow at noon at the same funeral home.
