The City Council and Hidraqua have new actions planned throughout 2022

Benidorm City Council, with the water concessionaire, Hidraqua, maintains the investment to improve and optimize the city's water infrastructure. Thus, at the moment, renovation works are being carried out on the water network at five points in the city, with an investment of more than 2 million euros and which is being carried out with the Renewal Funds provided for in the contract with Hydraqua.

Coinciding with the Water Week, the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate; and the manager of Hidraqua in Benidorm, Ciriaco Clemente; have been interested in the progress of the renovation works of the drinking water and sewerage infrastructures in Esperanto Street, in the section between Doctor Orts Llorca and Europa Avenue.

"An action - the mayor stressed - that, like all those that have been carried out in the last seven years in the subsoil of our city, have repercussions on the surface, since we not only improve the water network but also the urban scene and public endowments. In this case, the action will also entail the change and renovation of the sidewalks and the creation of battery car parks that will more than double the current number of spaces.

This project on Esperanto Street, valued at 396,139.37 euros, contemplates renewing the drinking water network by replacing the asbestos-cement pipes with others made of ductile iron, as well as all the valves and special pieces, in those sections that have a home connection. Fire hydrants and hydrants necessary for the service will also be installed, and action is taken on the wastewater and rainwater network. In addition, taking advantage of this work, a spillway will be created at the height of Doctor Orts Llorca street "solving the specific overflow problems that occurred in the collector in this area during episodes of intense rain".

Apart from this action, renovation works are also being carried out on the water infrastructure in the section of Jaén street between Europa avenue and Cuenca -722,763.58 euros-; and the drinking water network of the Marina Alta and Baixa avenues is being renewed. In the latter, in addition, the same will also be done with the sewage network, adding between the two investments 855,057.76 euros.

Finally, the project to improve the drinking water and sewage network in Callosa d'En Sarrià, Orxeta, La Nucía and Sella streets is also being carried out, with an investment of 266,718.67 euros.

The mayor has stressed that “ Benidorm water network has a using rate of just over 95%, 20 points above the Spanish average; a figure that is not the result of chance but of the very important and constant investments in water infrastructures made in recent decades by the City Council and Hidraqua, which have made it possible to lose a minimum amount of water in the pipes and take advantage of and reuse until the last drop of a vital resource. In short, do more with less.

Toni Pérez explained that “within this policy and strategy of continuous improvement, more investments are planned from now until the end of the year under the Renewal Fund and that, beyond allowing us to gain performance, they will mean necessary change of the urban scene, resulting in renovated streets that required this work for decades”.The renovation of Emilio Ortuño and Montecarlo avenue is one of the next projects to execute in 2022.
