The mayor has transferred the bases of these grants to the opposition before their final approval

Benidorm continues with direct grants to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus crisis

10 April 2020
Benidorm avanza en las ayudas directas para paliar los efectos de la crisis del coronavirus

To these direct grants of 200 euros, 50 euros will be added for each more member in the coexistence unit

Benidorm City Council has already drawn up the rules that will govern the granting of direct social aid announced by the mayor, Toni Pérez, to alleviate the effects of the coronavirus crisis and for which a million euros has been initially released. The mayor himself yesterday transferred these bases to the opposition groups during a telematic Board of Spokespersons, for their knowledge and possible contributions. Some bases that, after the analysis of the political groups, will be submitted to the Local Government Board to be published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP).

The mayor explained that “these grants are aimed at people or family units that do not have sufficient income to meet the expenses derived from the current emergency situation; and therefore, to the citizens who have been hit hardest by this crisis, which started as a health crisis and which we saw from the first moment, would lead to a social and economic crisis.

As detailed by Toni Pérez, "the monthly amount of aid will be 200 euros for the coexistence unit made up of one person, to which 50 euros will be added for each more member of the family unit." Thus, the coexistence units or family members of two members who meet the requirements set out in the bases will receive 250 euros; 300 euros, those of three; and 350, those of four.

The rules state that the aid will be granted "for a maximum period of 3 months", and once the rules have been published in the BOP, applications may be submitted until June 30.

To be able to access these grants, the applicant must have been registered for at least one year in Benidorm; and being unemployed, having been affected by a Temporary Employment Regulation File (ERTE), having reduced their working hours due to care or having suffered a loss of income due to the state of alarm. Likewise, among the economic requirements, it must be proven that the income of the family unit does not exceed twice the monthly Public Indicator of Multiple Effects Income (IPREM), set for 2020 at 537.84 euros. This limit will be increased by 0.2 times the IPREM for each more member of the family unit. In any case, income must include the months from January 2020 to the month prior to the application date.

Once the bases are approved and published, the rest of the economic requirements can be consulted, as well as the documentation to be provided, which must be submitted electronically or in the Municipal Town Hall Registry or in the administrative extensions.

Toni Pérez stressed that "the City Council, concerned about the situation, we are protecting and helping the most vulnerable people, but we also want to help those who today live in uncertainty as a consequence of the closure of economic activity, to minimize the impact of This crisis that, caused by COVID-19, is already social and economic and contributing to the fact that once the health alarm ends, the local economy recovers as soon as possible, having been able to mitigate the effects that it may be causing in families of Benidorm. "

Grants to the commercial fabric, freelancers and SMEs and companies

Apart from the million euros already released, the City Council plans to contribute an additional 424,621.37 euros for social aid. To these 1.4 million euros, another 2.6 million will be added at the end of the month, which will go entirely to aid for the commercial sector, the self-employed, SMEs and companies. In total, the global amount of municipal aid will amount to 4 million euros.
