Benidorm condemns the latest sexist crime committed in Madrid
Benidorm municipal corporation has once again expressed its condemnation today with a minute of silence for the last confirmed victim of gender violence. This is a 50-year-old woman, who was murdered by her partner in the Madrid neighborhood of Moratalaz last July.
Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España has hosted this silent rally that has been led by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, as well as other members of the Corporation.
According to the investigation, after killing his partner, the man committed suicide. The bodies of both were found on August 17, although the autopsy determined that the crime would have been committed a month earlier. It has also been confirmed that there were no previous complaints of ill treatment.
With this there are already 36 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,220 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted.
The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, she reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
