17 September 2019
Benidorm condena el último crimen machista sucedido en Pontevedra

Benidorm has observed a minute of silence today in protest and mourning for the last crime of gender violence in the town of Valga. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, have spearheaded the rally in which representatives of municipal political groups, officials and neighbors have participated.

This last crime happened yesterday morning when a man shot and killed his ex-partner of 39 years in the presence of the two children of both 7 and 4 years. The children were inside their mother's vehicle to go to school. Subsequently, the murderer used the same short weapon to end the life of his ex-sister-in-law and his ex-mother-in-law, who had moved there. After the crime, which brings to 41 the number of women killed in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners, the individual surrendered to the authorities in the town of Ames (A Coruña).

The Equality department of Benidorm City Council, all women who may be victims of gender violence are reminded that municipal services are available to them. In addition, they can contact the victim assistance telephone number, 016, which is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and in 51 languages. This number leaves no trace on the phone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the call log.
