Benidorm commemorates at dawn the 277th anniversary of the arrival of its patroness saint
As every March 16, at dawn, hundreds of people from Benidorm have come to their meeting with the patroness of the city, the Mare de Déu del Sofratge. In commemoration of the 277th anniversary of her arrival in Benidorm, at 0530 hours the carving of the patroness has come to the gates of the church of Sant Jaume and Santa Ana, where four 'copletes' have been sung in her honor and 'las mañanitas'.
Then, the image has crossed Plaza de Sant Jaume carried by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and by the queens mayor and infantile of the Festes Majors Patronals, Anna Galiana and Àngela Antón. The following to carry the patroness have been the councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, and the president of the Commissió de Festes 2017, Antonio Vicente Fuster. From the square, and carried by ladies, members of the Fiestas Commision and neighbors, the patroness has started a tour around the streets of the old town and visited the three beaches of the city: Levante, Poniente and Mal Pas.
Later, the image of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge has returned to the parish where a mass has been celebrated. After this, the Commissio de Festes has offered a breakfast for the attendees.
The commemoration events have continued this noon with the traditional bell tolling, and at 20.00 hours a mass will be officiated in honor of the patroness saint in the church of Sant Jaume and Santa Ana.
