An air raid at midday marked the beginning of a festive day, which continues this afternoon with parades, mass, the ‘ball del Peuet’ and a street party

Benidorm celebrates its Patron Saint's Day, Sant Jaume Apòstol

Benidorm celebrates this Thursday, July 25, the day of the city's patron saint, Sant Jaume, with a day full of events that started at noon, with the general ringing of bells in the church of San Jaime and Santa Ana and the launching of an aerial bombardment at Plaza de La Senyoria, and which will continue until well into the early hours of the morning.

The Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, together with other representatives of the Municipal Corporation, has accompanied this morning the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals 2024, Valentina Almodóbar Climent and Laia Zamora Picó, and their court of honour, members of the Commission and other festive representatives, in the parade that left from Casa del Fester to La Senyoria Square to contemplate the aerial bombardment. The mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, joined them there, wishing the representatives of the festival, as well as the Comissió de Festes and devotees of San Jaime Apóstol, “to enjoy a happy day honouring and accompanying our patron saint”.

This afternoon, from 6.30 pm, the events will resume with another parade that starts from Casa del Fester. The procession will head towards the headquarters of the Cultural and Recreational Association La Barqueta, where the members of the Comissió de Festes, headed by its president María Dolores Cano, will collect the image of Sant Jaume to carry it in a parade around the old town.

At 7.30 pm, the entire procession will stop at Plaza del Torrejó, where the poster announcing the Festes Majors Patronals, from 9 to 13 November, will be presented. This image will also be the one that the Commission will use as the cover of the Official Magazine of the 2024 festivities.

Later, at 8:30 p.m., a solemn mass will be held in the church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna, at the end of which the 2024 Flag Bearer, Vicente Fuster, will place a bow tie on the banner of the Commission and receive the city's badge from the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez.

After the Eucharist, at Plaça de Sant Jaume, the traditional 'Estampeta' will be lit, in honour of the patron saint, which will give way to the typical 'ball del Peuet' by the ladies and queens of the Festes Majors Patronals. Finally, Turís pyrotechnics will set off a fireworks display.

The day dedicated to Sant Jaume will end with a popular street party in the Castelar square, in El Castell, organised by the mayorales of the Comissió de Festes, who will open a bar to the public with food and drink at popular prices to raise funds. The music of a DJ will enliven the event.

The celebrations in Benidorm in honour of the patron saint began last Friday night, with the gala dinner organized by the Comissió de Festes, which once again took place on the esplanade of the Nautical Club. After today's festive day, the programme will conclude next Saturday, 3 August, with a commemorative concert that the ACR La Barqueta will dedicate to San Jaime Apóstol, in the church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna.
